☹️NO TECHNOLOGY?!☹️

☹️NO TECHNOLOGY?!☹️
IALT: Blog about there being no technology today!
Good Morning and welcome to my blog! As you all know, today is Thursday which means there is supposed to be Technology for the year 7 & 8's! There is no technology for the groups Cooking and Graphics but there is Technology for the people that are in the Hard Materials group with Mr Grundy!

This is because there is something happening at Tamaki College and Ms Ferguson and Mrs Tuipulotu are going to it. I am pretty sad because I was really looking forward for technology all this week!

One thing I am looking forward to tomorrow is going on the Stratosfear and the Power Surge!! I am really scared because I'm not going to lie but, I am scared of heights! I still can't wait to spend so much time with my friends especially at one of our favourite places! I can tell my friends and I are so EXCITED because that is really what we have been talking about all day today!

🌲Reading/Inquiry - Designed For Good!🌲

🌲Reading/Inquiry - Designed For Good!🌲
IALT: Read and understand the text (Designed for good)
Kia Ora and welcome to my blog last week and this week, the Kia Manawanui syndicate has been reading a text called Design For Good! We have been talking about Innovations and Inventors!
Image result for inventor
Image result for designed for good
Designed For Good is a text about three Industrial Designers, Craig, Stu and Robbie. These three designers have been working on a Pest trap that will help our country and land. They got the idea about this when they had seen the damage cause from Possums and other pests. They all researched information and designed a trap that was self-setting and powered by compressed gas!

In NZ, we have many native animals such as Kiwi, Lesser short-tailed bat, Hector's Dolphin, Hamilton's Frog, Kea and MANY more Native animals. In NZ we have species that were introduced to NZ. These species are pests and they include Kiore, Stoats and Possums. These animals were brought to NZ with our Maori ancestors for fur, for sport and some were stowaways.

When people talk about our Native Bush they are talking about a bush, tree or even forest that was originated by NZ!  I believe it is important to look after our Native Bush because it is apart of our environment and it is apart of what makes NZ, New Zealand. I believe that if someone has a NATIVE BUSH or tree at their house or at an area around them, they should help the environment by looking after it.

Image result for stoats eating birdsSome damaged was caused before people arrived in NZ. Many, MANY YEARS ago, NZ was covered in Bush and many pests such as Deer, Goat etc. Damaged was cause when these pests started eating out of the bush, as generations passed we have Possums which definitely ruin our environment. Stoats are dangerous to NZ because they are a big threat
to our bird population!

People do value some more then others because some native animals and non-native animals are more wild and are used to wild-life adventures. Other animals are mostly tamed and are stay at home harmless animals that most people would want around especially family.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope you enjoyed my short little investigation about the Native Environment and Bush!

Question of the blog: Have you learned about Pests yet?

Thank you for reading this blog! Make sure to give me some POSITIVE feedback and feed forward for my future! Bye :)

IALT: Use Screencastify to explain strategies used to solve three different Maths Equations.
Malo E Lelei and welcome to my blog! These past few weeks the Kia Manawanui syndicate has been using screencastify to explain their strategies. We had to choose 3 different equations that related to DIVISION, FRACTIONS and DECIMALS!

I finished all three tasks! Here is the GOOGLE SLIDE:
Here are the links to my screencastify:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One thing I found challenging about this task was EXPLAINING my strategy. It was quite challenging because I wasn't talking to just some random person but I was actually EXPLAINING my strategy like I was taking an actual test. EXPLAINING MY STRATEGY is something I struggle with in Maths. It is one of my goals and I think doing these types of tasks will help me achieve it!

One thing I ENJOYED about this task was being able to use SCREENCASTIFY to actually explain to you all my strategy. I was glad to use Screencastify to ORALLY EXPLAIN my strategies.

My next steps are to practice talking more clearly and take my time instead of rush it so it shows how hard I worked on the equation!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question of the blog: Have you ever used Screencastify to explain your strategy?

I really enjoy doing these types of tasks in MATHS! Maths is my FAVOURITE subject throughout the whole curriculum! I can't wait to do it next time! Bye :)

⛈️In The Moment...Hailstones⛈️

IALT: Freestyle write about Hailstones!
On Tuesday we were surprised with a visit from a Hailstorm. We were inspired to use our descriptive language to describe this moment. We were encouraged to include figurative language to describe the way we felt, what we heard and what we saw in any type of way! (Freestyle Writing)

⛈️In the moment...Hailstones⛈️
The hailstones pour down like shattering glass,
Little white frozen peas fall down to the grass.
Hailstones come
 Big and small
They come mostly shaped
 Like a ball.

It gets so loud, as loud as can be
A tiny little hail storm,
That's all I could see.
Followed by rain, it drips and it drops.
BOOM! The thunder joins and everyone has stopped!
Ripple, Rumble, Tap, Crash.
It sounds so loud, it makes a big splash.

First HAIL,
And then RAIN,
Next comes thunder
It's hurting my brain!
Stopping kids from playing outside.
Avoiding the sun,
KEEPING OUT THE FUN!

💻Playing Astria - Countdown To Impact - Mason, Lofa and Lydia!💻

💻🎮Playing Astria - Countdown To Impact - Mason, Lofa and Lydia!🎮💻
WALT: Find and investigate the game/text
Hello and welcome to my blog! Yesterday the Kia Manawanui syndicate started playing a game called Astria - Countdown to impact. Today is when we finished the second hour of the actual game. I was in a group of three with Lofa and Mason!

This game is about saving a planet called Astria. This game includes a lot of reading, problem-solving, and TEAMWORK! The three of us worked together to look for files, information and answer really hard questions! We were labelled an Alpha Leader, and we were helping the Council of Astria save the planet from an Asteroid called Apophisis.

There were 3 different labs, with three different teams making solutions to help stop the asteroid. These three labs/teams are called Nuclear, Solar-Sail and Hangar. They had different solutions which we all believed were great and they all had different types of people that worked hard to help stop the asteroid. There was someone that we did not like and that is Dr Dre. He was someone that was dodgy (someone we don't know if we can trust). He was forcing Professor to HURRY UP and make the formula so they can test their ship. But some articles showed that he owned a weapon company and the only reason he wanted to take the asteroid down was to cause war. We liked a lot of people such as Geek-Sta, and Chief. I liked Geek-Sta because he was goofy and he gave heaps of information. I liked Chief because he was SERIOUS and got angry if he didn't do something right or made a mistake (I can relate). I like all people in the game but these are just the two main people that I liked in the game.

I was glad that the Kia Manawanui syndicate were able to be apart of this game with the University of Auckland! I hope for more opportunities like this, especially digital games!

💭My Thoughts and Thinkings about Bias!💭

💭My Thoughts and Thinking about Bias!💭
IALT: Think and talk about Bias!
Kia Ora and welcome to my blog! Today the Kia Manawanui syndicate got split into groups. I was with Ms Komor and we were talking about Bias. Bias is a topic we got from the game Astria and I think learning about this helped those who didn't understand what Bias was, understand what it is!
Image result for bias
Each table got given a piece of paper that had pictures of M&M packets and Nutrition Facts. In our groups we had to talk about what we felt about it, noticed about it, wondered about it, and what we thought about it. We went around to each table and got answers. From this piece of paper I learnt a few things about M&M's. I learnt how much sugar is in it, how much fat is in it and how much sodium is in it. I also learnt there is no TRANS FAT in M&M's and that a few Vitamins are included too.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We got given an article/source on a piece of paper to read. This is what the source said,
"M and M’s are the absolute best! They are the most delicious and scrumptious choice if you are looking for a sweet treat. Did you know that M and M’s are healthy too. You will not find any trans fat in these sweet treats! M and M’s are produced in a wide variety of colours and therefore must be a real health benefits. They have recently celebrated 75 years which simply proves my point that they are the best!"
Source: Mrs Sweet Tooth

In our groups we had to talk about what we thought this article meant and also what we felt about this article. Next we talked about Bias and what Bias was. Bias kind of means when someone states their opinion and you rate it, if it is high bias it means it is less reliable and less credible (believable), if it is low bias it means it can be trusted because it is believable and backed up by evidence.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I enjoyed learning about the word "Bias" not only that but also learning about M&M's!

Question of the blog: What does Bias mean to you?

Thank you for reading this blog! I hope you learnt something! :)
Bye!

Maths - Adding and Subtracting Decimals!

Maths - Adding and Subtracting Decimals!
IALT: Reflect on what we done in Maths today!
Talofa Lava and welcome to my blog! Today the Kia Manawanui syndicate started the second block with MATHS!! This term the Kia Manawanui syndicate have been learning about DECIMALS! We have a worksheet that we have to complete, and there is a lot of work on it!
Image result for Maths
I am currently on Activity 3, task 4 question E! We have to rename the first number and use place value partitioning. For example if it was 5.3-2.7= It would be (4 ones and + 13 tenths) - (2 ones + 7 tenths) = 2.6

One thing I have learned from doing this worksheet is using the Place Value Partitioning strategy like I listed above to solve Decimal equations! I find this strategy a good one if your using bigger numbers but I'm more used to using Algorithm!

One thing I found challenging in this worksheet is having to solve word problems. For example there are questions like 4 and 8 tenths - 2 and 5 tenths=
I didn't get this at first but I did get some help. The reason why I found this challenging was because I am not used to this but I still tried my hardest!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Question of the blog: What are you learning about in maths?

Thank you for reading this blog! Make sure to give me some POSITIVE feedback and feedforward for my future! Bye :)

🐦Predator Free - Inquiry Talk!🐦

🐦Predator Free - Inquiry Talk!🐦
IALT: Reflect on what we done in the first block!
Kia Ora and welcome to my blog! Today in the first block the Kia Manawanui syndicate had a visitor come in and talk to us about a special topic!
This visitor was Ms. Treena. She talked to us about a group called Nature Watcher. No one knows who this/these people/person are but she talked to us about what Predator Free is! We learned that companies around the world and in our country are trying to wipe out all predators by 2050!
We read a document about different opinions from different companies and organisations. With this we had to state our opinion and what we thought about their opinion! This meant we had to reply back to Nature Watcher and explain to them our statement by backing it up with evidence! Here is my response:

One thing I learned from this was that companies are trying to get rid of all ¨Pests!¨ Some people said that we should respect all animals but I kind of disagreed with them! I realised where they were coming from so I agreed and disagreed!
One thing I found challenging was understanding others opinion! This was hard because it distracted how I felt about this!
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I enjoyed writing my opinion and also reading my classmates opinion because it helped me understand more about what Predator Free is and what Nature Watcher is doing with our country! :)

Question of the blog: Do you know what Nature Watcher is?

Thank you for reading this blog! Make sure to give me some POSITIVE feedback and feedforward for my future! Bye :)

📽️Manaiakalani Film Festival 2K18 - Reflection!!📽️

📽️Manaiakalani Film Festival 2K18 - Reflection!!📽️
IALT: Reflect on the Manaiakalani Film Festival!
Malo E Lelei and welcome to my blog! Today was the day that marks the 11th year of the Manaikalani Film Festival! Manaiakalani Film Festival is when all schools around the cluster make Educational Movies to present at Manaiakalani!
Image result for manaiakalani
My favorite part of today was seeing schools be able to enjoy each others learning using LEARN, CREATE, SHARE! This was really enjoyable because EDUCATION is a big part of life and doing this makes it FUN! It was fun watching all the Sommerville children be able to be apart of that too!
Image result for TEAM
I really enjoyed today especially being able to see our room 1 presenters have the confidence that some students at my age kind of don't have!

Question of the blog: Did you go to Manaiakalani?
Thank you for reading this blog! Make sure to give me some POSITIVE feedback and feed forward for my future! Bye :)
