📘BEDMAS - Mathematical Operation📘

📘BEDMAS - Mathematical Operation📘
IALT: Blog about Maths
Talofa Lava and welcome to my blog! Yesterday for Maths room 9 learned about BEDMAS which is an acronym for
B - Brackets
E - Exponents
D - Division
M - Multiplication
A - Addition
S - Subtraction
Image result for bedmas
BEDMAS is a Mathematical Operation that you would use to solve an equation. Here is an example of a BEDMAS question:
6 - ( 9 - 2) + 3 x 6
I was first learning about BEDMAS I always just thought you solve the question in order of how it is presented but then I learned about how BEDMAS is an operation and an acronym of how you should solve the equation. This is how I would solve the question when I first learned about BEDMAS:
6 - 9
But since I couldn't do that I would get stuck in the equation and the answer would've been wrong. After learning about BEDMAS and what it is, this is how I would solve the problem:
6 - ( 9 - 2) + 3 x 6
Simplify:
6 - 7 + 3x6
6 - 7 + 18
18 + 6 - 7
24 - 7
= 17

I really enjoy learning about BEDMAS because it teaches me how to solve an equation that has different equations in it. I can't wait to learn more about BEDMAS!
Question of the blog: Have you ever learned about BEDMAS? How has it helped you in your Mathematical Learning?

Thank you for reading this blog! Make sure to give me some POSITIVE feedback and feedforward! Bye :)

We have made a DLO that shows what we can share online and what we can't. Take a look for yourself:
Our next task was to explore our blog and talk about it using this DLO:
These were our instructions:
Blog Detective
  • Choose one of the blogs you have been exploring.
  • Take some time to explore the blog posts and blog profile
Use the mindmap to record:
  • what you know about this blogger from their blog
  • your impressions of this blogger e.g. what they like, what they are good at, what are their interests?
  • Add more shapes and arrows to your mindmap if needed

---------------------------------------------------------------------
I have completed the Blog Detective task where I have explored my blog and explained on the DLO what I am good at and what I learned from my blog. Take a look:
LINK TO DLO

--------------------------------------------------------------------
I really enjoyed doing this task. I think it gave me and others an opportunity to be able to explore our own blog and be POSITIVE about it.
Question of the Blog: Have you ever done this before? Did you do it on yourself or someone else?

Thank you for reading this blog! Make sure to stay tuned for when I do another Blog Detective on someone else. Please give me some POSITIVE feedback and feedforward. Bye :)

👷Technology - Last Week of Hard Materials! 👷

👷Technology - Last Week of Hard Materials! 👷
IALT: Create something using Wood in Technology
Bonjour and welcome to my blog! I am currently at Tamaki College in the Hard Materials class with Mr Grundy. Since I am done with my project, today I am going to record all the steps it took me to create my project and share it with you all. I am also going to be sharing with you all the story I wrote about my project when we first started technology.

Here is the story of my project:
Image result for silhouette applying makeup pngThe design I have chosen to make is a Fridge with a mirror on the door.
I chose this design because it would be easier for my mum to access a smaller mirror when doing her makeup.
It is for both my mum and sister to use as a mirror or a storage box.
It can be used at home or in the car.

My project was too tricky to make, especially with the opening door so I decided to turn it into a box with a mirror on the front. As the weeks came by, I guess it would've been a lot trickier to find a big enough mirror to go on my box so my project then turned into a box. I think having this opportunity to create something using Wood was amazing. It made me think hard about what I wanted to make and how I was going to make sure that my project was up to my standard. One thing I want to do with my project is decorate it. I think this will show my creativity and I hope my mum likes it!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I really enjoyed making this box. It really opened my eyes to different things I want to do in the future. I recorded the steps on a piece of paper and I want to share it with you all so that one day, maybe you can create something too!
The Process
Step 1. I used a piece of wood to make a full size working drawing of my project because this drawing showed Mr. Grundy the measurements and the size of my box.

Step 2. I used a pencil and a ruler to then copy the measurements from my drawing onto the piece of wood.

Step 3. I marked a square line (at 90 degrees) across and made sure that it was square using a Trisquare.

Step 4. I cut off the first piece of wood using a Bench Hook and Backed Saw.

Step 5. I then marked out the joint using the other piece of wood I had just cut out and a Tri Square to make sure it was a tight fit.

Step 6. After that, Mr. Grundy used a marking gauge to mark where the halfway point is for where the joint will end.

Step 7. Next, I used the Backed Saw and a Bench Hook to cut out two lines on the joint. This was quite tricky because I had to stop where the halfway mark was.

Step 8. After that, I had to use a Chisel, Mallet and Bench Hook to chisel out the access wood so that my joint can fit.

Step 9. I had to repeat step 5, 6, 7, and 8 to create another joint on the other side of the wood.

Step 10. Mr. Grundy used some of his machines to make my joints tight.

Step 11. He then used PVA Wood Glue to glue them together and I waited for it to be dry.

Step 12. I used a Ruler and a Tri-Square to measure out the sides of my box on a piece of MDF.

Step 13. After that, I used a Bench Hook and Backed Saw to cut out the MDF wood for the sides.

Step 14. After that, I used Sandpaper to smooth out the sides and then Mr. Grundy used PVA Wood Glue to glue the sides on.

Step 15. Next, I used a scrap piece of wood to measure out the length and width of the lid.

Step 16. I created the lid using a piece of MDF and by using another piece of wood, Mr. Grundy cut out a little piece to use as the knob.

Since my project slightly changed from the start to the end, I decided to make a full-size finished drawing using a pencil, ruler and my project.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am gutted that this is my last Hard Materials class at Tamaki College but I am thankful for the opportunity. I will miss Mr Grundy, especially when he would tell us "If you are sitting on a stool and trying to use wood tools, I will rip the chair from under you and beat you with the legs" Being in Hard Materials with mr Grundy has been a blast!

Finding Fractions of an Amount
IALT: Find Fractions of a whole number
Good Afternoon everyone and welcome to my blog! Today in Maths, Mr Janse gave us activities to do. I chose to do the Finding Fractions of an Amount. In this task we had to choose a word problem out of three word problems and explain it on a DLO. But me being me, I decided to do all THREE!

I have made a Google Drawing explaining my answers and how I got them. Take a look:
These equations were quite easy but I think it still helped me in my goal which is to explain my strategy so that others can understand how I got the answer.

💻Manaiakalani Survey💻

💻Manaiakalani Survey💻
Kia Ora and welcome to my blog! Today in the last block the student leaders have completed a Manaiakalani Survey where we had to answer questions about LEARN, CREATE, SHARE and how our digital devices help us in class.
There were many different questions that asked us about who we are and it also asked us about what we do in school. These questions will be used as data for Manaiakalani and it will help them understand if Learn, Create, Share helps in the classroom.

Completing this survey helps us show Manaiakalani that we understand the learning we are doing in class. It also shows them we know how to use our devices and what to do on it.
I really enjoy doing these surveys and I think it helps me understand the importance of Learn, Create, Share.

🗣️🦁National Young Leaders Day 2019🦁🗣️
IALA: What makes an AWESOME and GREAT Leader
Kia Ora, Malo E Lelei, Talofa Lava and greetings to you all! Welcome back to my blog! I know I have not blogged in a long time but I am willing to have the courage to be able to blog again! Today was an AWESOME day for us student leaders of TPS cause we got the opportunity to go to the National Young Leaders Conference... FOR FREE! I had a really awesome time and I cannot wait to tell you all about it.

Image result for nyldThis event was held in the Manukau Vodafone Pass Center and was hosted by Liz Alexander and Phil Baker. This event is the
Attitude
                 NYLD19

There was a whakatauki for this years event and that is:
HE AHA TE KAI A TE RANGATIRA?
HE KORERO, HE KORERO, HE KORERO
What is the food of a leader?
It is Conversations.

Image result for nyldThis event was really packed but I loved just being in the atmosphere and also just seeing a lot of other GREAT leaders from a lot of different schools. This is a leadership event where students and leaders all around New Zealand are able to come together and learn about what being a leader is and how to be a good one. It's not like school where you have one teacher just talking and talking to you but there is a variety of different people that are known as leaders all around New Zealand. These guest speakers come in and talk to us about how they're leaders and what has helped them become one.

There were 5 guest speakers today and they were Christian Gallen, Hana Tapiata, Ronnie Taulafo, Dr Lehan Stemmet and Kings. I was quite familiar with Ronnie and Kings but I was looking forward to learning more about them all.

My highlight of the day was actually just being at the event. I think that having this opportunity really pushed me and encouraged me to improve and be the best leader I could ever be! If I had to pick one highlight it would be having the opportunity to go up on stage and thank one of the many people I look up to, Ronnie Taulafo. I was honoured to give him the gift and give him a BIG hug of appreciation.
Image result for thank you gif

I didn’t have a favourite speaker but I know that they were all able to teach me something and also inspire me with everything they said. I learned a lot today and if I could put it all in one then we’ll be here for a long time because I just can’t choose!

One thing that was really inspiring to me though is a quote that was given by Dr Lehan Stemmet. This quote is:
Change is inevitable, Growth is optional.

This means that change is unavoidable and it may not be easy but Growth is optional. So what this all basically means is you can choose to worry about changing and how you can avoid it but you can’t or you can choose to grow and become a better leader than you already are.

Image result for listen gifOne thing out of all the things I learned today is that there are two differences to listening.
One of them is you can just listen to something and hear random sounds or you can listen to UNDERSTAND & LEARN.
I think this is really important because someone could be talking to you and could possibly be telling you something you have wanted to know about but if you’re pretending to listen you’re just hearing random noises but if you’re actually listening then you are listening to understand. I think this is really important because it helps show others around you that you are a good leader and you care about others opinion. (This was a message from Hana Tapiata)

I think that something I can do to help me be a good leader and to make the world a better place is to focus on the things I do have instead of focus on the things I don’t have. I think if I do this and inspire others to do this as well it’ll help us all avoid jealousy and instead be able to learn something from it.

Here are some notes I wrote down in my book during today's conference:
Notes:
  • Communicate to lead
  • Communicate to connect
  • To be a LEADER you are a LION
  • Change is inevitable
  • Growth is optional
  • Acceptance
  • Respect
  • Appreciation
  • Not for what they do, but for who they are.
  • Use FERNS to make a trail so people who wanna follow you are able to follow the trail you have made. This is creating a Legacy.
  • We is more important than Me
  • The RIGHT thing isn’t always the EASY thing, but the EASY thing isn’t always the RIGHT thing.
  • Korero - Listen
  • Korero - Learn
  • Korero - Lead

I really enjoyed my time today and I am sooooo grateful for the opportunity! Thank you for reading! Bye :)
