💻Quality Blog Commenting - Cybersmart With Ms Collins💻

💻Quality Blog Commenting - Cybersmart With Ms Collins💻
IAHT: Post a quality blog comment.
Talofa Lava and welcome back to my blog! Today Ms Collins came in to Room 9 and talked to us about a Quality Blog Comment. A Quality blog comment needs to be 3 things. Thoughtful, Helpful & Positive.
We got given a DOC and in this doc there were links to our buddy classes blogs. Our first buddy class is Toroa Hub @ Marshland School which is in Christchurch, and our other buddy class is Room 6 @ Awahono School which is in Greymouth. I read through their blogs and I really enjoyed seeing their content.
Room Six
Room 6 @ Awahono School
One blog that really stood out to me from Toroa Hub @ Marshland School was their #theyareus blog. This blog had a video which showed how their class showed Love and Support for the families of those that passed during the Christchurch attack. I really enjoyed seeing what they done to share their love and I think they were really creative as well. Here is a screenshot of my comment:

As I was scrolling through Room 6 @ Awahono School blog, I saw a lot of bright and colorful things. But one thing that caught my eye was their Word Art blog. This task helped them show Manaakitanga towards each other by using Positive descriptive words to describe each other. My favourite one was this one which I think was made for a boy named Jayden. I really like how they were creative and the colors they used in their piece of art. Here is my comment:
I really enjoyed commenting on their blogs! I think it is a great way for me to be Cybersmart online and share my learning with those I don't know well. One thing I learned from this lesson with Ms Collins is that a Quality Blog Comment needs to have something POSITIVE, HELPFUL and THOUGHTFUL in it.

I cannot wait for next week's Cybersmart lesson!
QOB:
Do you know how to write a Quality Blog Comment?
Does your school work on digital devices?

Thank you for reading this blog! Make sure to give me some POSITIVE feedback and feedforward for my future! Bye :)

📘➕Algebra - Learning Something New in MATHS!➕📘

📘➕Algebra - Learning Something New in MATHS!📘
IALT: Solve an Algebra equation.
Malo E Lelei and welcome back to my blog! Today in Room 9 for Maths, I learned how to solve an Algebra equation.
Image result for algebra gif

Related imageI asked Mr Jay to give me ANY equation and to me I thought he was gonna ask, "34 x 14" or "128 x 6" But instead he said, "2x + 14 = 80" and my job was to find the value of the 'x'. On my first attempt to solve this equation, I divided 80÷14 and Mr Jay said to me that's incorrect. I was really confused so Mr Jay made it a bit easier and said, "Okay, the value of the 'x' is 33. Find out how." This made it a lot easier and I looked at the equation and said the x is 33 because 33 x 2 = 66 and 66 + 14 = 80!" I was really happy that I had found the answer and Mr Jay came and taught me how to write it.
This is how you would write the answer to the equation:

There is supposed to be a dot/space between the 2 and 'x'.
This looks like:
2.x
The dot means to multiply so basically you're multiplying the 2 by the 'x'.

2.x + 14 = 80
What we're first trying to do is get rid of the 14 so to get rid of the 14 we have to subtract 14 away from 14 which equals 0
(14-14=0)
Then we have to do the same with the 80. For example:
2x = 80 - 14
When Mr Jay explained how to solve this he always wrote '2x =' before he would continue. This looks like:
2x = 66
Which also means 80-14=66
Next you have to divide 66÷2 which is the number before the x. This should look like:
2x = 66÷2
And then the answer will be the value of the 'x'.
x = 33
Wait! We're not done yet. The 33 will the become the substitute of the 'x' and this will make the equation:
2.33 + 14 = 80
Because:
2x33=66
66+14=80

I am really glad I learned how to solve Algebra equations and I am very happy I was able to show Ako and teach Hevani and Grace how to solve these questions! One thing I need to work on is explaining WHY I have to always write 2x=, and WHAT does it do to the equation, but this just shows how much more I have to learn!Image result for ako

I can't wait to learn more about Algebra! I hope you have learned something!
QOB:

What is your favourite subject in school?

😴GOODNIGHT!😴

😴GOODNIGHT!😴
Kia Ora everyone! I would just like to say GOODNIGHT! It is really late and I have been up blogging and I think it is time for me to have a break! I hope everyone has had a GREAT TUESDAY and that everyone was safe today!

My highlight of the day was at morning tea and lunch because it was our first inside play of the year. Me and Arizona are wet day monitors for room 4 and I really enjoyed it because we played Connect 4. I also enjoyed seeing all the kids playing together and using their manners which is showing MANAAKITANGA!

Image result for role modelOne thing I am proud of today is the fact I got 5 TOKENS from MRS KELLY (She's our A M A Z I N G principal.) I got 5 tokens cause I got caught being good through the security cameras. At TPS we have a corridor where our patrol signs and vests go. All of the vests were on the ground and everyone walked passed them except me, I picked them up and hung them on the hook. This means I was showing INTEGRITY which is doing the right thing even when no one is looking. I was very proud of myself and I think that if I continue to do this, it'll set a good example for the younger students to do the same.

I hope you all had a good day! Blog ya tomorrow! :)

🧕👳❣️Message Of Support For Christchurch❣️👳🧕

🧕👳❣️Message Of Support For Christchurch❣️👳🧕
Marhaban! (Greeting In Arabic) Welcome to my blog! I am pretty sure that we all have heard about the terrorist attack in Christchurch last week. Now this attack killed 50 people and injured at least 31 Kiwis! This attack was located at 2 different Mosques in Christchurch and is really heartbreaking.
These past few days, people have been paying their respect to those that were killed and injured in the attack by honouring them and paying their tributes at their local mosques by laying down flowers and saying their prayers. This has really helped our nation come together and stand in Solidarity. Here is my Message of Support for Christchurch:
"He is a Terrorist. He is a
Criminal. He is an Extremist. But he will, when I speak, be Nameless."
- Jacinda Ardern

This attack has not only affected those who have died, been injured or their families but it has affected every single Kiwi in NZ.
Some people ask Why NZ? What did we do? Are we safe?
But no matter what, there could never AND there WILL never be an excuse for violence.
New Zealand does not tolerate HATE or this man's EVIL decisions but we do value LOVE and TOLERANCE.

We got into groups of 2-3 and in my group is Hevani and Hope. (THE SISTERS) Our first task was to first discuss what we already know about Polynesian Explorers.
As you can see, we did not know much about this topic and we were very much on the surface level of this topic. After that, we watched the video that was given to us and as we went along, we wrote down what we wanted to know about Polynesian Voyagers.
We were really interested in this topic and we wanted to know so much about it. As we watched several videos we wrote down what we had learned from all the information given to us through the videos.
This is our KWL Chart:

💬Growth Mindset Quote - 2019💬

💬Growth Mindset Quote - 2019💬
Malo E Lelei and welcome to my blog! Last year the Kia Manawanui syndicate learned a lot about building ourselves up and having a growth mindset. To do this we create something called Inspirational Bubble Quotes! I made a lot last year, here are some examples:

I really enjoyed making these Growth Mindset Bubbles because not only did it help me and my confidence skills but it helped my friends know to always have a growth mindset! Here is my growth mindset bubble for 2019:

Image result for opportunityOne thing I love about this quote is that it relates to me in many different ways! It also inspires me to never give up because it says, 'If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door' To me this means if you aren't given an opportunity to do something, create something that'll give you that opportunity because everything isn't just handed to you, sometimes you have to work for it!

So inspiring!
QOB: What has been your favourite quote for 2019 so far? And why?

😔A Time I Felt Alone - Diary Entry😔

😔A Time I Felt Alone - Diary Entry😔
IALT: Write a Diary entry about a time I felt alone
Malo E Lelei and welcome to my blog. A few weeks ago, Mr Jay gave room 9 different topics that we wanted to write about. I chose to write a diary entry about a time I felt alone.
Image result for alone gif

If you don't know what a Diary entry is, it basically writing in your diary about a certain topic. I have written my Diary entry about when my grandpa died...

9.11.18

Dear Diary,
This day was a very sad day. My strong, loving and handsome grandpa passed away which made me feel alone.

We arrived at the hospital at 6:00-6:30 and when I walked into my grandpas hospital room I could just feel the love! My mum started crying and I was so sad because we were too late to hear him speak again. I went and said hi to all my cousins and watched tv with them. A few hours later me and my cousin, Alo were standing against the window and watching my grandpa lay there. All of a sudden we saw him stop breathing and I asked my mum, “Mum, Is he breathing?” She then got up and realised he was a bit cold, my aunts were all shocked and were confused as to what was happening. They all started crying and I ran to go get my cousins. “They said he stopped breathing. He’s not breathing come on!” We all surrounded my grandpa and just started filling the room up with tears. I couldn’t believe he was gone!

I felt so alone as I sat in the hospital room next to my grandpa. My grandpa was my rock and was there for me whenever so losing him made me feel like I lost myself. I couldn’t stop crying and when the nurses came in and said, “He’s gone” I didn’t want to believe it, not one bit at all, but I knew my grandpa has done his job and that he was resting in peace. Losing my grandpa made me feel very sad. I was gutted on how much more I could’ve done to say thank you to him for everything he has done for my family and I. I felt so alone and I felt like I couldn’t talk to anyone as much as I did with him. I felt alone not being able to see a smile like his again. It felt so wrong not being able to see him again. Feeling alone is the worst thing in the world, especially feeling alone because your grandpa is no longer with you. But knowing that he was resting up in Heaven with his son and grandchild, I knew he was happy and wanted me to be happy as well.

We done a prayer and my nena started telling us all, stories about him and how much he has sacrificed for this family. I felt very sad and alone at this time but being surrounded by my family and feeling at this time made me feel special!

- Lydia

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Image result for praying hands gifOne thing I enjoyed about writing this Diary Entry was being able to reflect to myself about something that has really affected me in the past. I think one thing that helped me get through this hard time was my connection with God and also how it bought all of our families closer together. Just how the shooting that has recently happened in Christchurch has bought our nations together because we all stand as one.

QOB:
When have you ever felt alone? And what did you do to get through it?

😀My Pepeha - 2019😀
IALT: Write my Pepeha in my own language!
Bula Vinaka and welcome to my blog! After we wrote our Bio Poems, we wrote our Pepeha. A Pepeha is a way you present your history and your back story in Maori. The Kia Manawanui syndicate has recently created one and I done mine in TONGAN.

I think writing a Pepeha helps others get to know you but in a different language. I think this is a very good thing because TPS is a multicultural school which means we include everyone's culture and by making a Pepeha we show what our school values. Here is my Pepeha:

🐕Kuri Dogs - Summary🐕

🐕Kuri Dogs - Summary🐕
IALT:

  • Summarise a text.
  • Identify the key points in a text.
Malo E Lelei and welcome to my blog! This week I have been reading a text called Kuri, written by Priscilla Wehi.
Related image

Image result for kuri dog boneA key idea in this text is Extinction. Extinction is when there is no more of a kind. An example of this is, Kuri dogs started to disappear more and more because when Pakeha arrived, they didn't like dogs attacking the Sheep so the dogs were often shot and eaten. Not everyone knows why these dogs disappeared and became exist, but scientists now study the bones that they have recently found.

Another key idea from this text is Resources and Reusing. When Kuri dogs were killed they were either eaten or used for many things that would help locals survive. An example of this is, when Kuri dogs arrived, many chiefs kept them as pets but most people killed the Kuri to use their skin as clothes or blankets and their bodies as meat.

This cloak belongs to Te Urewera hapū. The hair of the cloak came from Kuri dogs of an important chief. This cloak has been passed down generations and was worn on special occasions such as the Signing of the Treaty.

I think that scientists studying the bones of Kuri, it will help the Maori society today learn more about the past.

📝My Bio Poem - 2019📝

📝My Bio Poem - 2019📝
IALT: Write a Bio Poem!
Malo E Lelei and welcome to my blog! A few weeks ago in the beginning of the term, the Kia Manawanui syndicate wrote Bio Poems so we can get to know each other. A Bio Poem is a type of writing that you use to describe someone. In this context, 'Bio' is short for Biography. For example, on social medias such as Instagram. You will get asked to make a 'bio' so that when people look at your account, they will know who you are and what you like etc. This is exactly like a Bio Poem. When people read it, they will know a lot of things about you!

We presented our Bio Poems and Pepehas to the class (which I will blog shortly) and we had to decorate our DLO with pictures, signs and symbols that represent our Bio Poem. Here is my Bio Poem:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------I think that a Bio Poem is the best way to get to know someone and I think that it also helps with our writing skills too. I enjoyed writing my Bio Poem for this year, check out last year's one and see if you can notice anything different.
Question of the blog: Have you ever written a Bio poem about yourself or anyone else?

Thank you for reading!

🧠Today's Word - Kia Manawanui🧠

Kia Orana and welcome to my blog! Everyday, the Kia Manawanui syndicate has a word of the day and today's word is...

Each word that we have relates to our Inquiry topic which is Aotearoa New Zealand - My Home, My Country. We have recently been reading texts that are from the 19th Century, 17th Century etc. Today's word is century and my job is to research what it means!

Century:
A period of 100 years.
E.g
In the 17th Century from 1750 - 1780...

👨‍👧My Role Model - My Greatest Influence👨‍👧
WALT: Use the S.E.E.E structure to explain our Role Models.
Talofa Lava and welcome to my blog! This term for writing, the Kia Manawanui syndicate has been focusing on EXPLANATION WRITING! We have been using the S.E.E.E structure which stands for:
S - Statement
E - Explain
E - Example
E - Effect
Here is a presentation that has examples and explains the S.E.E.E structure:

The KM syndicate was given a task where we had to write an explanation using the S.E.E.E structure explaining who is our role model and why? I have chosen my father because he is a LOVING, HARD-WORKING, RESPECTFUL and HANDSOME man. My dad inspires me in many different ways, and here's why.

🏆My Learning Journey Pathway For 2019!🏆

🏆My Learning Journey Pathway For 2019!🏆
WALT: Describe our learning pathway for this year!
Malo E Lelei and welcome to my blog! A few weeks ago, the Kia Manawanui syndicate talked about the school vision, "Whaia Te Ara Tika" which is, "Follow The Right Pathway" We got given a task where we had to use the school vision to talk about our pathway and what we want in our pathway.

Our task for this topic was to create a piece of art using our hand. We first had to pick five goals that we had for this year and trace our hand on a piece of paper. In our hand we had to draw signs and symbols representing each goal. I chose to split my hand into five different areas and in each space I would draw signs and symbols that represented one
goal.

I think I done pretty good! It turned out better then I expected and I love how each sign and symbol relates to each goal! I have made a DLO that explains each goal which I hope makes it way easier to understand my drawing.

🌎Manaiakalani Visitors Day - Reflection🌎
Image result for manaiakalaniMalo E Lelei and welcome to my blog! Recently, I was selected to be the Ambassador for TPS and today I got to experience presenting in front of all the office administrators from each school in the Manaiakalani cluster. I worked very hard on this presentation but with the help of Ms. Aireen, I was able to present something that was up to my standard.

Today was a day where each ambassador from each school in the Manaiakalani cluster attended a visitors day at the Panmure yacht. Me and Ms Aireen have worked very hard on this presentation, and I think it turned out really good! Here is the presentation:
I was very scared and nervous to present in front of everyone but when I arrived, I had the opportunity to meet Mafi from G.I.S and Anita from G.B.S! I had so much fun getting to know them and I laughed a lot at their jokes.
Image result for whanaungatanga
Image result for presentingOne thing I found very challenging when presenting was trying to speak slowly because I just wanted to get it over and done with. Another thing I found challenging was trying to make eye contact while reading just so I can make my presentation INTERESTING!

One thing I really enjoyed about today was being able to experience something that would help me with my confidence and my Taha Whanau (social well-being). I think this experience has boosted my confidence in presenting in front of big audiences.
